Making Shaped Pendants

The next project I'm going to be working on (besides finishing the paintings for my parent's bedroom!) is making pendants in different shapes. This is something I'm doing on an ongoing basis for small paintings as seen in this post, but I also hope to make pendants in various shapes (we're still contemplating what those will be) using the scroll saw. It's something I've been thinking of doing for almost a year but hope to work on soon.

I'll update, hopefully within the next month or so, with some images of pieces in various shapes. Of course, if for any reason you want or need some shaped-pendant necklace now, you can e-mail me with your idea and I can make something for you.

In an effort to keep things affordable and give more options, the prices for the shaped pieces will be the same as the regular pieces which is $25 for ready-made and $30 for custom-made.

Anyone Interested in Ornaments?

Something that I have done minimally (I made two custom ornaments last year and haven't made others) is to make holiday-themed ornaments. I started to think about this again and especially with my husband having set up his scroll saw this summer, we can probably cut out some scroll-saw shapes to make ornaments. In many cases, if the wood isn't too thick, he can cut a few ornaments out at once (in, say, a christmas tree shape, or classic round ornament shape, or santa claus, or perhaps an elegant star design. I have no idea. I haven't decided the themes yet).

What I wanted to know from my readers (whoever you are?) is if anyone is interested in Christmas ornaments and, if so, how much you are willing to pay for them. I resisted making ornaments before because it will likely take just as much time (actually more) as the necklaces but I can't imagine that anyone would want to pay 25-30 dollars for an ornament. In fact, I would probably charge 35 or 40 for a specially-shaped, hand-painted ornament, considering the extra effort put into it. The ones I made last year were at a significant discount for a friend, so I can't do that. I know it took at least twice as long as a pendant because of the size and complexity.

So I am wondering if it is worth making them? There might be the rare person out there who will pay that much for an ornament that is unique, has an image that is particular and special to them, and that they will keep for years and years. But will the average person want to pay for that? I'm not sure. Maybe as a Christmas gift?

Perhaps I should just offer it as an option to people, temporarily, during the holiday season, maybe add it to the custom PayPal menu?

Let me know what you think.
